Upon a recent move to the city from the mountains of Colorado I was consumed by the massiveness of the city, and the small place a human being occupies in a metropolitan environment. A nod is given to the great photographer and film maker Fan Ho, who photographed city scenes of China. My painted figure was influenced by his photograph of Shanghai with a solitary woman walking down a city byway.
